Job Title
Community Engagement Facilitator (Digital Inclusion, Technology & AI) Bradford Health Inequities Programme (Bhip)
JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION
About Happy Healthy You
Happy Healthy You delivers a range of health and wellbeing activities and services across Bradford, working closely with Global Majority communities and people experiencing the greatest barriers to good health and health equity. We go to trusted places where people live, work and gather, working alongside communities to deliver culturally grounded activities and support. We listen to and ethically represent lived experience and community insight, while developing local capacity and leadership. We work with communities and partners to turn that insight into practical action, helping to shape services and contribute to lasting system change that improves health, wellbeing, and quality of life.
The Bradford Health Inequities Programme (Bhip)
Bhip is a five-year programme funded by the National Lottery Community Fund (NLCF) and delivered jointly in partnership by Happy Healthy You (HHU) and Race Equality Network (REN). As part of the National Lottery Community Fund's National Collective, Bhip is one of nine health inequities programmes established nationally to address health inequities caused by structural racism and discrimination.
Working alongside Communities, Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations, the NHS, public services, and other partners across Bradford District, Bhip will co-design, test and evaluate community-led approaches that address health inequities driven by structural racism and discrimination, influence policy and practice, drive system change, and generate evidence and learning for Bradford while contributing to the NLCF’s National Collective.
As an innovative five-year programme, Bhip expects to evolve through community engagement, co-design, learning, and evaluation. The Bhip team members should therefore expect their roles to develop over time in response to programme learning, funding, and organisational requirements to achieve its aims.
About you
You will be a confident and approachable community engagement professional with strong digital and technology skills and the ability to make technology accessible to people with different levels of confidence, literacy, language and experience.
You will enjoy working directly with communities, sitting alongside people to solve practical problems, running groups and training, and finding culturally appropriate and creative ways to build digital confidence and independence. Through this work, you will identify common needs and help develop practical, culturally grounded training, resources and approaches that can be used more widely with communities.
You will also bring strong practical knowledge of digital tools and emerging technologies, including AI, and be able to support HHU colleagues to use technology effectively, safely and confidently in their community work.
This is an evolving role. You will be curious, adaptable and comfortable testing new approaches as technology, AI, community needs and Bhip develop, while maintaining good judgement around accessibility, privacy, ethics, risk and digital exclusion.
The Opportunity
You will join HHU and the Bhip programme at an important point in their development, as we expand our community work and explore how digital technology and AI can help reduce, rather than widen, health inequities. Through Bhip’s co-design, test-and-learn approach, there is real potential for what we develop to influence practice across Bradford and contribute learning more widely.
This is a distinctive and evolving role, combining hands-on community engagement with strong digital and technical expertise. You will help shape practical approaches to digital inclusion, develop culturally grounded support and training, and explore how emerging technology and AI can be used safely, ethically and creatively by communities and the HHU team.
You will also have opportunities to work creatively with Bhip’s co-design and communications colleagues and with digital filmmakers, content creators and others, exploring new ways for communities to participate, tell their stories, build skills and influence change through technology.
As technology, communities and Bhip develop, so will this role, giving you genuine scope to test ideas, learn what works and help shape how digital inclusion is approached in practice.

Digital Health Access: Support communities to understand and use digital health and care services, helping identify where technology, language, literacy, confidence or service design creates barriers and using this learning to inform Bhip’s wider learning and workstreams.

Technology, AI & Emerging Opportunities: Explore and test appropriate uses of digital technology and AI with communities, HHU community-facing team and wider Bhip team, helping develop safe, ethical and inclusive approaches as technology, opportunities and risks evolve.
Creative Digital Engagement & Co-design: Work with Bhip colleagues, communities and relevant creative and digital specialists to explore how technology can support co-design, storytelling, communication, participation and other creative ways for communities to share experiences and influence change.
HHU Digital Capability: Support HHU’s community-facing team and the wider Bhip team to build confidence and capability in using digital tools, creative digital tools and AI effectively in their work.
Partnership, Insight & Bhip Integration: Work with the HHU Programme Manager and wider Bhip team, community organisations and relevant health, VCSE, NHS and digital partners to identify digital exclusion, emerging needs and opportunities and ensure learning contributes to Bhip’s wider aims and system change.
Data, Evidence & Learning: Maintain appropriate records and use agreed systems, including Bhip data and evaluation systems, to capture activity, community insight and learning, helping evaluate what works, improve approaches and demonstrate impact.
